PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will hold a field tour and public meeting of the BLM California Desert District Advisory Council, demonstrating that partnerships and inclusion are vital to managing sustainable, working public lands. 

The council will participate in a field tour of BLM-managed public lands on Friday, December 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., leaving from Palm Springs-South Coast Field Office, 1201 Bird Center Drive, Palm Springs, and then will meet in formal session on Saturday, December 7, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Renaissance Palm Springs Hotel, 888 E Tahquitz Canyon Way, Palm Springs, CA 92262.

The December 6 field trip includes planned visits to the Eagle Crest Energy Eagle Mountain Pumped Storage Project, NextEra Desert Sunlight Solar Farm, and Terra-Gen San Jacinto II Wind Re-power Project. The Saturday public meeting will include a discussion of implementation of the John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act (Dingell Act), and renewable energy development. 

The Saturday meeting will also include updates from council members and the BLM California Desert District Manager. Members of the public will have the opportunity to comment at the beginning and end of the meeting as well as during various presentations.  While the meeting is tentatively scheduled to conclude at 4 p.m., it could wrap up earlier should the council conclude its presentations and discussions.

Advisory councils provide advice and recommendations for the BLM to consider on resource and land management issues within the agency.  Each citizen-based council consists of 10 to 15 members from diverse interests in local communities and they assist in the development of committee recommendations that address public land management issues.
