The big news of the day is the government shutdown and what it means to recreation.  Early indications are that a protracted shutdown would result in event cancellation as permits would not be complete.  Already, National Park Service has begun closing gates to national parks and monuments.  US Fish and Wildlife Service has closed wildlife refuges to hunting and fishing. Hopefully this will reach a conclusion without undue impact. The impact to recreation will be felt more if the shutdown continues for an extended period..
