San Diego, CA. (August 24, 2017) - The Cleveland National Forest, in partnership with OnCell, have launched a new mobile app to provide quick and easy access to real-time data, safety notices, current closures and office locations. Users will also have access to photos and maps of recreation areas, local hiking trails, trail conditions, and fire alerts.

Visitors that download the forest app can access the information even without cell signal, allowing for information exchange even in rural areas. "Through technology, the Cleveland National Forest can now support visitors in innovative ways, improving citizen access to public information and allowing for clear communication" says Forest Supervisor Will Metz, "We hope this will encourage the citizens of San Diego to explore new forest areas and experience the excitement of the backcountry wild lands."

In December 2016, the Forest Service partnered with OnCell, a Boston-based tech start-up specializing in DIY app development to meet the growing connectivity demands of current and future generations. This is the first part of a Forest-wide effort to improve citizen access to information and enhance digital innovation. Future versions of the Cleveland app will also include educational mobile tours and popular trail video tours.

Visitors can download the app onto their Apple or Andrioid devices by visiting the iOS store at: or the Google Play store at:
