As part of forest plan revision process, we need to understand where our meadows are and what shape they’re in. The Forest Service is groundtruthing and updating a map made by UC Davis researchers showing over 17,000 meadows in the Sierra Nevada and Southern Cascades. Once revised maps are done, Forest Service will work with UC Davis to update the attributes of the meadows, including slope and hydrogeomorphic type for each meadow.
Partners are building a “Sierra Nevada Meadows Clearinghouse” to support NFWF’s meadow initiative. The website will track what various groups are working on.
