March 6, 2017 - The Cal4Wheel Conservation and Education Foundation has applied for an OHMVR Grant with a focus on promoting responsible recreation and keeping the trails clean of trash and litter.  This proposed project with OHMVR Division grant funding focuses on keeping the trails clean and uses the Tread Lightly! theme of “Pack it in, Pack it Out”.  The goal of this proposed project is to provide a agriculture reusable mesh trash bag that can be used by 4x4 enthusiasts to collect their trash and other trash encountered on trail rides.

In direct partnership with the California Four Wheel Drive Association, Inc. (CFWDA), the trash bags will be provided to each participant in member club and CFWDA sponsored events throughout the state.  CFWDA partners with many not-for-profit/non-profit clubs and organizations throughout the state covering a variety of 4x4 activities including recreational trail rides as well as safety clinics and snow patrols where participants will be provided a trash bag.

In addition to trailhead and event distribution, the trash bags will be available at locations where CFWDA provides a membership recruitment booth such as the Sand Sports Supershow, Pomona Off-Road Expo, and International Sportsman’s Expo.  In addition, the proposal will provide trash bags in support of Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service Public Lands Day and Earth Day activities to promote keeping public lands clean.

The preliminary application will be available online by visiting the California State OHV Grants and Cooperative Agreements program at   The Division’s website will provide detailed instructions for accessing the preliminary application and submitting comments.
