The conditions listed below can change rapidly, especially with inclement weather.  Therefore, it is recommended that visitors to the forest contact the Ranger District Office which is nearest to their destination for the very latest information.  The National Weather Service is a good resource for information about current and  predicted weather!

Highway 33 is OPEN. For road conditions please visit Caltrans Website:  http://www.dot.ca.gov/cgi-bin/roads.cgi

Recreation Areas closed for the winter season

  • Pine Mountain Road (closed) 
  • Pine Mountain Campground (closed)
  • Reyes Peak Campground (closed) 
  • Reyes Peak Trail (closed) 
  • Dough Flat Road (closed) 
  • Nordhoff Ridge OHV Area 
  • Cherry Creek Road 

CAMPGROUNDS/DAY USE AREAS/TRAILHEADS/ROADS

  • Nordhoff Ridge OHV Area - CLOSED FOR THE WINTER SEASON.
  • Reyes Peak Rd (Pine Mountain Rd), Pine Mountain Campground, Reyes Peak Campground - TEMPORARILY CLOSED
  • Squaw Flat Rd to Dough Flat Trailhead - TEMPORARILY CLOSED
  • Middle Lion Campground - OPEN ( Concession-managed campground by the Parks Management Company, $20/night)

  • Rose Valley Campground  -  OPEN  ( Concession-managed campground by the Parks Management Company, $20/night)

  • Holiday Group Campground - OPEN. **By reservation only** (For reservations or cancellations, go to www.recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777) 

  • Wheeler Gorge Campground-Concessionaire managed (For reservations or cancellations, go to www.recreation.gov or call 1-877-444-6777). Call the Parks Management Camphost for information about first-come, first-serve camping at 805-640-1977. 

  • Piedra Blanca Trailhead - Sespe Creek Trail, Piedra Blanca Gene Marshall National Recreation Trail  - OPEN (Adventure Pass required to park at trailhead or Interagency Annual, Senior or Access Pass)

  • Piedra Blanca Gene Marshall National Recreation Trail - OPEN 

  • Potrero John Trail - OPEN

  • Chorro Grande Trail -OPEN

  • Matilija Trailhead - OPEN

  • Cherry Creek Rd - CLOSED 

Portrero Seco Road (6N03):  north of Ojai remains CLOSED for repairs due to storm damage from 2011. There is no estimated opening date on this route

**Target shooting at Cherry Creek is prohibited**
