The Sierra National Forest is in the middle of conducting a Forest Assessment, gathering existing relevant information on current forest conditions and trends and drivers, to evaluate their sustainability and identify the need to change the existing forest plan by the end of 2013.  In February, Forest staff hosted the first set of public meetings in order to engage interested publics, California Native American Tribes, public agencies and elected officials in this collaborative process.  The focus to date has been gathering known data on the current forest condition.  The focus of Forest Assessment collaboration is now centering on trends and drivers.

The SNF has scheduled two public meetings and one webinar. The goals of the meetings include: to review the plan revision process and associated collaboration and communication methods; to solicit feedback on the characterization of current conditions and key references; and to solicit input on the identification of locally-specific trends and drivers of forest change.  A general public meeting, technical meeting and webinar are being offered.  All meetings will cover the same materials; the only difference being the technical meeting is geared toward people wanting to provide detailed feedback and input on specific scientific and technical concerns.
